Walsh Victorious In Team Defeat At #2/3 Iowa
Jan. 12, 2014
IOWA CITY, Iowa - Redshirt junior Taylor Walsh seized his 27th win of the season, posting a 17-6 major decision during #21 Indiana's 38-4 road defeat at #2/3 Iowa (10-1, 3-0). Hoosier heavyweight Adam Chalfant was a sudden victory loss shy of earning his second top-3 win of the season.
The dual started with the big boys as Chalfant and third-ranked Bobby Telford took the mat. Chalfant struck first, taking down the Hawkeye midway through the opening period. After exchanging escapes later in the first frame and during the second period, Telford jumped ahead for the first time with a third-period takedown. Chalfant then see-sawed back on top with a reversal to go ahead 5-4. Telford was able escape and force overtime, however, where a four-point moved ended the bout.
Walsh improved to 27-2 on the year, pummeling Mike Kelly 17-6. Walsh neared his 24th fall this season by turning Kelly several times but couldn't quite get the stick. Twenty-four of Walsh's 27 victories this season have been accompanied by team bonus points.
