Three Hoosiers Record Wins at #6 Illinois
Jan. 27, 2013
CHAMPAIGN, ill. - Luke Sheridan and Taylor Walsh completed weekend sweeps on Sunday, each defeating their second Big Ten adversary in a three-day span. Heavyweight Adam Chalfant was also victorious in Indiana's dual at #6 Illinois. The Fighting Illini (6-2) took the match, however, by a final score of 30-9 over the Hoosiers (6-7).
Sheridan had the biggest IU triumph of the day, topping 12th-ranked Tony Dallago, 10-5, in the 184-pound bout. His first career win over a nationally-ranked opponent avenged a 7-2 defeat to Dallago earlier this season at the Midlands.
Walsh, ranked ninth nationally at 157 lbs., notched his fourth consecutive Big Ten winner in a low-scoring 3-0 tally over Matt Nora. Walsh is a team-best 25-6 overall, 12-1 in dual matches and an impressive 4-1 during the Big Ten season.
After seeing several third-period leads slip away during the last two weeks, Chalfant was not going to let that happen again. Knotted at two points apiece entering the final frame, he broke through for his first conference W this season by putting five points on the board and securing a 7-2 win.
The Cream and Crimson return to University Gym in Bloomington for the next competition, a home dual versus the Michigan Wolverines on Friday, Feb. 1 at 7 pm ET.
