Three Hoosiers remain in contention for All-America status after Day One of the 2013 NCAA Wrestling Championships. Taylor Walsh (157 lbs), Ryan LeBlanc (165 lbs) and Adam Chalfant (285 lbs) continue their quest to the stand Friday (March 22) at 11 am ET, each three wins shy of becoming All-Americans and six away from third-place finishes.

All three advanced to the round of 16 with victories in the championship first round, including Walsh's blanking of 3rd-seeded Joseph Napoli (Lehigh), 6-0. LeBlanc tallied two wins to earn his spot in the second round after emerging from the 165-pound pigtail match.

LeBlanc's pigtail bout extended into a tiebreaker. After holding down Central Michigan's Mike Ottinger for 30 seconds, LeBlanc not only escaped from his turn in the bottom position, but also notched a takedown for the 5-3 triumph.

The next Hoosier `W' came when Walsh shutout the 3rd-seeded 157-pounder for his 30th win of the season. It was a bit of redemption for Walsh, avenging a 4-3 defeat to Napoli earlier this season in the semifinals of the Midlands. Neither man was able to score in the first period and Walsh kept it scoreless by riding out Napoli for the entire second stanza. Walsh elected to start in the bottom position for the third frame. He nailed a reversal and turned Napoli for three near-fall points. Tack on a riding time advantage point and Walsh earned the 6-0 winner.

LeBlanc returned to the mat next, facing Navy's Peyton Walsh. The redshirt junior Hoosier jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with a takedown in the opening minute. He would take down the Midshipman once more before his 6-1 decision came to an end.

Chalfant, seeded 12th at heavyweight, reached the round of 16 with an 8-3 decision over Jacob Kettle (George Mason). It was all locked up until Chalfant tallied two takedowns and an escape in the second period to go ahead 5-1. He added a third takedown late in the third and final frame.

Joe Duca (125 lbs) and Luke Sheridan (184 lbs) each dropped one-point bouts in the first round, Sheridan coming up just short in the first tiebreaker.
