July 18, 2011
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Director and head coach Ron Helmer announced the 2011 Indiana cross country schedule on Monday. The Hoosiers will play host to three meets in Bloomington this fall as the men's and women's teams prepare for another season.
Indiana opens by hosting events in back-to-back weekends beginning with the Indiana Open on Sept. 10, followed by the Indiana Intercollegiates on Sept. 16. The Hoosier squads will then begin October with a stop at Oklahoma State in the Cowboy Jamboree on Oct. 1, then nearly two weeks later travel to Madison, Wis. in hopes of defending the men's title at the Adidas Invitational.
IU will then return to the state of Indiana where a portion of the team will run in the Pre-Nationals meet in Terre Haute on Oct. 16 before competing in the Big Ten Championships on Oct. 30, which will be hosted in Champaign, Ill., this year. Indiana then hosts its third meet of the season with the Hoosier Invitational taking place on Nov. 4. NCAA competition will then take place with the Great Lakes Regional in Toledo, Ohio on Nov. 12, followed by the NCAA Championships on Nov. 21 in Terre Haute.
"We are excited about the opportunity to host three meets at our championship caliber course here in Bloomington," Helmer said. "Our schedule gives our student-athletes the chance to compete against the best competition in the country and prepares our teams for the championship schedule with an eye toward being successful come May, June and July."
