Hoosier Cross Country to Host Indiana Community 5K
Aug. 30, 2006
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana University cross country teams open their course to the Bloomington running community as they host the Indiana Community 5K Friday, Sept. 1 at 6 p.m.
The race gives the community a chance to experience IU's world-class facility first-hand and also run with the team. The course will be the site of the 2006 Big Ten Championships and has held five national cross country meets, as well as the conference meet on four other occasions.
Teams participating with the Hoosiers in the opening event of the season include the men's team from the University of Texas and the University of Louisville.
Indiana returns lone senior Marcus Aguilar to the Hoosier lineup as IU's top runner. Last season, Aguilar took 47th at the Big Ten Championships and 44th overall at the NCAA regional. He was also Indiana's third highest finisher at the NCAA meet behind former Hoosiers Sean Jefferson and Stephen Haas.
The Indiana Community 5K kicks off a season that includes three other meets hosted by the Hoosiers, including the Big Ten Championships on Sunday, Oct. 29. IU will host the Indiana Open on Sept. 9 at 10 a.m., and will follow with the Indiana 4K Championships on Oct. 21 at 11 a.m.
