Sept. 7, 2006
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana cross country teams will host the Indiana Open on Saturday, Sept. 9 on IU's world class championship course. The men's 8K is slated to begin at 10 a.m., while the women will follow with a 5K scheduled for 10:45 a.m.
The Hoosiers will compete against some tough competition in Butler, Huntington University, Minnesota and Purdue. The Gophers ended last season at No. 23 in the Men's MONDO Top 30 Poll, with the Hoosiers at No. 29.
Last weekend, Indiana opened its course to the Bloomington running community for the IU Community 5K. The race drew 75 runners, including teams from the University of Texas and the University of Louisville. Redshirt junior Brennon Plotner led the way for the Hoosiers with a time of 16:45, finishing 10th on the men's side.
The Indiana Open is just one of four meets hosted by the Hoosiers this season. The schedule is highlighted by the return of the Big Ten Championships, which will be on Sunday, Oct. 29. This year marks the first time since 1996 that the league championship meet has been held in Bloomington. The Hoosiers will also host the Indiana 4K Championships on Saturday, Oct. 21.
