IU'S Times in Indiana Open
Amanda Bell 14:55.1 1st place
The IU women's cross country team opened up the season with the Indiana Open against Eastern Illinois last Friday at the IU Cross Country Course. It was a non-scoring event, however, the Hoosiers took eight of the top ten places.
IU Women's Notes: The women's team had three newcomers place in the top three of the race. Amanda Bell, freshman, was the top finisher, followed by Monica Hostetler, a fifth-year transfer from Anderson University, and Allyson Hammond also a freshman. These three runners, along with Cross Country newcomer Kim Craig and returning senior Megan Leahy, will be counted on to be among Indiana's top five throughout the season. Returners Erin Womble, Amber Macy, and Stephanie Magley will add depth to the team.
Quoting Head women's coach Judy Bogenschutz:"This week we will be running 10-15% more than we usually run. Work-outs will be tougher so that next week we can back off a little when we head to the Indiana Intercollegiate. I think that the girls are handling things well. The freshman are still orientating themselves with college life and our program. We are trying to get them adjusted to the Bloomington hills".
