Bloomington, IN - Indiana redshirt freshman John Jefferson is the Big Ten Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sept. 22. The Delray Beach, Fla. native led the No. 20 Hoosiers to their second Indiana Intercollegiates title in the last three years on Sept. 20, by winning the 8K with a time of 25:05. The No. 20 ranking, according to the Mondo NCAA Men’s Cross Country poll, is IU’s best since Oct. 31, 2000, when it was 15th.

Jefferson redshirted the 2001 cross country season, but he earned All-America honors in indoor track for his 10th place finish in the mile at the NCAA Championship. He carried this momentum over to outdoor track, where he finished second in the Big Ten in the 1500 meters.

Indiana is idle this weekend, but returns to action Oct. 5 at the Indiana State Invitational in Terre Haute.
