Bloomington, Ind.- Indiana hosted the second annual Sam Bell Invitational today at the IU Cross Country Course. North Carolina State won the meet with 19 points, Tennessee was second with 102 points and South Florida placed third with 117 points. Indiana finished in seventh place with 219 points.
N.C. State dominated the 8K race with five runners in the top ten. Chan Pons finished in first place with a time of 24:37.8. Abdul Alzindani was second with a time of 24:39.4. " This was a great race for us. We had some unexpected guys for us finishing very well and some runners that we expected up there also. I think that if the race started two hours later, it would have been much more warmer and been harder to run. Overall, I am pleased with the outcome and it was nice to get a chance to run here at Indiana," said Chan Pons.
IU's top finisher was Tom Chorny who finished in 10th place with a time of 25:16.4 The Hoosiers placed seventh at 219 points. "I am still working on my running strategy. It has been hard to learn how to run all over again. I see myself in much better shape in 3-4 weeks. We are now looking towards the Pre-NCAA meet and then the Big Ten Championships. Every race left is a huge meet for us, commented Tom Chorny.
Indiana's next home meet will be the Pre-NCAA meets on October 16. The Hoosiers will then host the NCAA Division I Championship on November 22.
