Bloomington, Ind.- Indiana hosted the second annual Sam Bell Invitational today at the IU Cross Country Course. Arkansas won the meet with 22 points, North Carolina State was second with 97 points and Northwestern placed third with 138 points. Indiana finished in seventh place with 210 points.
N.C. State dominated the 5K race with four runners in the top five. Amy Yoder finished in first place with a time of 17:06.9. Larissa Kleinmann was second with a time of 17:19.5. " I thought that we did wonderful. We are training hard and staying in shape. Our goal was to come here and do well at IU. This is a good course and being here in my home state was a big boost to run well. We have some great new runners who are learning very quickly. I am looking forward to come back here in November for the NCAA Championships," said Amy Yoder.
IU's top finisher was Amanda Bell who finished in 8th place with a time of 18:06.5. The Hoosiers placed seventh at 210 points. " We didn't do as well as we would have liked. Amanda Bell continues to show why she is such a great runner. She is a huge addition to our team. It was difficult today for some of the runners. Some of these girls have never competed in a 5K before at this level. It is a young team but one that will continue to be very competitive," said Indiana Head Coach Judy Bogenschutz.
Indiana's next home meet will be the Pre-NCAA meets on October 16. The Hoosiers will then host the NCAA Division I Championship on November 22.
