Hoosiers Head North for Big Test at adidas Invitational

IU cross country faces its first big test of the season at the adidas Invitational. The meet will feature six ranked women's teams and eight ranked men's teams on the Zimmer Championship Course at the University of Wisconsin. The women's 6K will begin at 11 a.m. CT and the men's 8K will begin at 11:45 a.m. CT.
The meet will feature the eighth-ranked Florida women and the seventh-ranked Wisconsin men as the top-ranked teams. Indiana's men are ranked No. 26 in the current USTFCCCA poll. The Hoosiers have run against one nationally-ranked opponent on the season, as the men defeated No. 28 Butler at the Indiana Intercollegiate.
Indiana gets its first ever look at the Zimmer Championship Course, which will host the 2010 Big Ten Cross Country Championships. The adidas Invitational will play host to seven men's and seven women's teams from the Big Ten Conference. The Wisconsin men have won the last 11 Big Ten team titles in cross country. The Hoosiers will get their first opportunity to see how they match up with the Badgers at the meet. The Hoosier women will square off with the Big Ten's top-ranked team, Michigan State. The meet could prove to be a good preview of the Big Ten Championships which will take place on the course on Halloween day (10/31/10).
LAST TIME OUT
Blanchard made her move with a kilometer left on the 5K course leaving her competition behind to finish 4.5 seconds ahead of the field in 17:37.8. Ginther outkicked Ball State's Ali Bishel in the last 100m for a .4 second advantage in 17:42.3. Three more Hoosiers finished in the top 10, Caitlin Engel (6th, 17:54.8), Kelsey Duerksen (8th, 17:57.9) and Erica Ridderman (17:58.2). All nine Hoosiers finished in the top 18 spots of a race with 179 finishers.
Hubers led the Hoosier charge for the second-straight meet, finishing in 24:33.7. Mayhew was close behind in 24:36.9. The two Hoosiers were more than 10 seconds better than the rest of the field. Andy Weatherford took seventh in 24:55.2 and Nate Morrow was ninth in 25:03.7. Ben Bizuneh wrapped up the IU top five in 18th (25:36.8). Three more Hoosiers finished in the top 25 out of 185 finishers.
