Three Indiana Hoosiers took advantage of the opportunity to slip one more race under their belts before heading into the highly competitive month of October, which features the Notre Dame Invitational, Pre-NCAA's, and the Big Ten Championship. Sophomores (Freshman redshirts) Nathan Purcell and Matt Sweetman ran in the ISU Invite while senior Dan Billish suited up in his hometown of Chicago at the Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational.

"I really wanted to give these guys an opportunity to get more experience in a racing situation. With Purcell building himself up after a late summer setback, Sweetman coming on in workouts, and Billish having never run in his hometown, this weekend opened a window for these guys," commented head coach Robert Chapman.

At the Indiana State Invitational in Terre Haute, facing competition from men's team champion Northern Arizona as well as Ohio State, Iowa, and Air Force, Purcell took 29th in the 8K with a time of 26:11.0. Though fatigued by his first 80 mile training week, Sweetman finished in 27:16.30 (49th).

Senior Dan Billish was cheered on by family members, friends, former summer campers, and his high school coach, all of whom dotted the home crowd at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational 8K hosted by Loyola University. Billish finished in 26:30 to take 51st despite having fallen after being tripped. The University of Missouri claimed the men's team title.
