    IU Places Seventh At ND Invite (10/1/04)

    BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Junior Sean Jefferson placed seventh with a time of 23:50 to lead the No. 12 Indiana men's cross country team to a seventh-place showing at the Notre Dame Invitational. The 8K event was held on the Burke Memorial Golf Course on the campus of Notre Dame.

    No. 2 Stanford won the event with 89 points, just edging host Notre Dame, which placed second with 95 points on the afternoon. Individually, Josh Rohatinsky of BYU won the event with a time of 23:40, followed by Notre Dame's Kurt Benninger (23:43) and Stanford's Neff Araia (23:44).

    Following Jefferson's lead for IU was senior Tom Burns who placed 34th with a time of 24:25, marking the second-lowest time in his career. Junior Stephen Haas also recorded the second-lowest time of his career, finishing closely behind Burns with a time of 24:26 to place 36th.

    Other IU runners include junior Eric Redman who placed 50th with a time of 24:38, followed by John Jefferson's time of 24:43 to place him 56th overall.

    In the team standings, No. 24 Butler placed third overall with 112 points, while No. 11 Air Force was fourth with 113 points. No. 9 BYU was fifth with 126 points and No. 26 Florida State was one spot ahead of the Hoosiers with 143 points.

    Other ranked teams in the event included No. 20 Miami (OH), which finished just behind IU in 8th with 205 points

    The Hoosiers will next compete at the Pre-NCAA's, which will be held in Terre Haute, Ind. On Oct. 16.
