    SETTING THE SCENE
    After taking last week off from competition, the Hoosiers are set to get back in action as they compete at Pre-Nationals, hosted by Indiana State University on the LaVern Gibson Golf Course in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday, Oct. 13.

    The men's 8K blue race puts the Hoosiers up against Air Force, Alabama, Arizona, BYU, California, Cincinnati, Clemson, Columbia, Dartmouth, Dayton, Duquesne, Florida State, Georgia, Iona, Iowa, Iowa State, IUPUI, Kent State, Louisville, Miami (OH), Michigan State, Montana State, Morehead State, Northern Arizona, Nebraska, New Mexico, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Mississippi, Portland, Tennessee, Tulsa, UCLA, Villanova, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

    The Hoosiers get underway at 11 a.m. ET.

    LAST TIME OUT
    Redshirt sophomore Jordan Kyle paced the Indiana men's cross country team to a sixth place finish with 176 points in the men's 8K gold race at the 22nd Annual Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota at the Les Bolstad Golf Course in Minneapolis, Minn., on Saturday, Sept. 29.

    Kyle crossed the finish line in 24:45 to finish eighth overall. Junior Timothy McLeod placed 36th with a time of 25:27. Freshman Cole Hardacre finished 39th with a time of 25:34. Redshirt junior Mark Fruin clocked a time of 25:36 for 41st. Redshirt junior Brennon Plotner placed 52nd in 25:43, while freshmen Ben Hubers (59th, 25:44) and Jacob Rich (79th, 26:04) rounded out the Hoosier pack.

     

     

    KYLE PACES HOOSIERS AGAIN
    All-American Jordan Kyle led the Hoosier pack for a fifth consecutive race, dating back to Nov. 11, 2006, as he finished eighth at the Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 29.

    Kyle recorded a time of 24:45 in the 8K race.

    HOOSIERS GAIN REGIONAL AND NATIONAL ATTENTION
    For a second straight week, Indiana is currently ranked fifth in the Great Lakes Region after moving up the week of Oct. 1 after holding at No. 8 for the first two weeks of the season.

    The Hoosiers are also gaining some national attention as they received a point in this week's USTFCCCA Cross Country Poll.

    THE HELMER ERA BEGINS
    Ron Helmer was named the Indiana Director and Head Coach of Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track & Field on May 25, 2007. Helmer served in the same capacity at Georgetown University the last eight years.

    Helmer was promoted to director in July 1999 after serving as associate head coach with the Hoyas for seven seasons and assistant coach for the five years prior. During his tenure, 120 of his student-athletes earned a total of 342 All-American recognitions, including 41 student-athletes receiving 96 certificates since becoming director in 1999. In addition, 219 student-athletes captured BIG EAST individual titles, including 67 since the start of the 1999-00 academic year.

    GREAT LAKES REGIONAL HEADS TO BLOOMINGTON
    The Hoosiers will host the Great Lakes Regional Championship on Saturday, Nov. 10. This year's regional meet marks the first one in Bloomington since 2005 and the second time IU has been the host.

    The men's 10K race is slated for 11 a.m. ET on the Indiana Cross Country Championship Course.
