October 16, 1999 STANFORD WINS MEN'S PRE-NCAA MEET, IU PLACES 26th
Bloomington, Ind.- With a beautiful and sunny day at Indiana University, Stanford won the Pre-NCAA meet held at the IU Cross Country Course with 126 points. The Hoosiers finished the race in 26th place with 576 points.
Finishing in first place with a time of 24:06.3 was senior Steve Fein from Oregon. " I think the race went well. I planned out everything that I wanted to do, and I did it. This is tough course but I am good on hills. I am a strength runner and this race will benefit me. As a team we are improving each week. I think that we have a shot to be in the top ten," said Fein. Stanford had three runners in the top 20 of the race. In third place with a time of 24:10.3 was Jonathan Riley for Stanford. In ninth place for Stanford was Thomas Murley with a time of 24:25. And coming in 16th place for the Cardinals was Jake Mass with a time of 24:35.2.
IU's top finisher was senior Tom Chorny who finished in 82nd place with a time of 25:31.3. The Hoosiers placed twenty-sixth with 576 points. Next was junior Aaron Gillen in 99th place with a time of 25:41.9. Freshman Chris Powers came in 125th place with a time of 25:55.2.
Indiana will travel to Penn State on October 30 to compete in the Big Ten Championships. The next home meet will be on November 22 when the Hoosiers host the NCAA Championships.
