BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana 4K Cross Country Championships, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 21, have been cancelled. The Hoosiers will use this weekend to prepare for the 2006 Big Ten Cross Country Championships, hosted by Indiana, on Sunday, Oct. 29 at the IU Cross Country Course.

The Big Ten Championships feature some of the best cross country teams in the nation. Currently the league boasts six men's teams and six women's teams either ranked or receiving votes in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Association Poll, including top-ranked Wisconsin on the men's side and No. 3 Michigan on the women's side.

Indiana has also progressed this season. In its first meet with the entire team, Indiana recorded a dominating performance at the George Mason Invitational on Sept. 30 with a first-place team score of 23 points, defeating Charlotte (59 pts.) and meet host George Mason (95 pts.).

Redshirt freshman Jordan Kyle led the way in his first meet of the season, capturing the individual title in the 8K in a career-best 24:45.36. Last weekend, redshirt sophomore Mark Fruin paced the Hoosiers with a career-best time of 24:49 to finish 90th in a field of 243 runners.

Complete coverage of the 2006 Big Ten Championships may be found on IUHOOSIERS.com. The women's 6K is slated to begin at 10:45 a.m., and will be followed by the men's 8K at 11:30 a.m.
