Pease, Hubers Named Big Ten Runners of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Ben Hubers and Sarah Pease have been named the Big Ten Runners of the Week, the conference announced. Pease took the win and Hubers finished eighth, as both runners led their teams to second place at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival in Fayetteville, Ark., on Saturday, Oct. 16. This is the third time a Hoosier man and woman have won weekly conference honors in the same week and the first time since Andy Bayer and Wendi Robinson were both honored after their performances at the Paul Short Run in 2009.
Indiana director and head coach Ron Helmer said Pease and Hubers both executed their race plans well and helped the team achieve at a high level.
"Sarah and Ben both ran very well in Arkansas," said Helmer. "It was great to see our teams run with some of the better teams in the country, and these two led the way."
Hubers earns his first Big Ten Runner of the Week distinction after leading Indiana to a second-place finish out of 50 teams at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival on Saturday. Hubers' time of 29:39 placed him eighth out of 470 runners in the 10-kilometer race. The junior's finish marks the third time in four races he has been the top Hoosier finisher after winning both the Indiana Open and Indiana Intercollegiate earlier this season.
Pease earns her first Big Ten women's cross country Runner of the Week honor after outrunning 468 competitors at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival on Saturday. Pease's first-place finish led the Hoosiers to second place in the 56-team field. The senior crossed the tape in 16:39, finishing the 5-kilometer course 10 seconds ahead of her closest competition. The win marks her second of the season, having won the Indiana Open earlier this season.
