Estrada Named IU Scholar-Athlete of the Week
March 28, 2007
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - On a weekly basis, iuhoosiers.com will recognize top academic performances by Hoosier student-athletes with the IU Scholar-Athlete of the Week award. For the week ending March 18, junior water polo player Brittany Estrada earned the honor as selected by IU Athletics' Academic Services.
"The whole team is very proud of Brittany, especially since she is in the nursing program, which is very demanding academically," Indiana head coach Barry King said. "This shows how committed she is to doing her best in and out of the water."
In IU's six game roadtrip last weekend, Estrada tallied six goals on 10 shots. She also dished out four assists in the contests and has a total of 19 goals and 11 helpers on the season.
According to academic advisor Nelda Montemayor, Estrada has done an excellent job of managing her academic career.
"Brittany has demonstrated a real maturity in regards to her academics and work ethic, both in the classroom and in her sport," Montemayor said. "She is a team leader, and several of the water polo underclassmen have shared how helpful and caring she is. She is an individual that lives up to high standards and I know that she will go far and accomplish the goals that she sets for herself."
