McConnell Named IU Scholar-Athlete of the Week
April 25, 2007
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - On a weekly basis, iuhoosiers.com will recognize top academic performances by Hoosier student-athletes with the IU Scholar-Athlete of the Week award. For the week ending April 22, sophomore baseball player Trevor McConnell earned the honor as selected by IU Athletics' Academic Services.
"I am not surprised," Indiana head coach Tracy Smith said. "Trevor is one of the hardest workers I have ever had as a coach, and I am sure the same characteristics he shows on the field are the ones his professors see. We are proud of him, he is most deserving of this honor."
McConnell, an outfielder, has played in 15 games this season, making four starts. He has been successful in both of his stolen base attempts and has 11 putouts on the year.
According to academic advisor Kimya Massey, McConnell has done an excellent job of managing his academic career.
"Trevor McConnell has proven to be an accountable individual who is consistent across the board in whatever he does," Massey said. "He knows what it takes to be successful academically and has proven himself time and time again in the classroom. He has had a great year and semester and truly deserves this honor."
