    WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Indiana women's basketball team defeated Purdue, 66-54, on Monday, Jan. 14, in Mackey Arena.

    The Boilermakers (7-9, 3-2 Big Ten) jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first three and a half minutes of the game by way of a pair of jumpers by Danielle Campbell and a three-point play by FahKara Malone. However, the Hoosiers (10-7, 3-2 Big Ten) answered with an 8-0 run of their own, which was sparked by a 3-pointer from Jamie Braun at the 16:26 mark, to take an 8-7 lead with 14:07 to go in the first half. A 3-pointer and a layup by Malone put Purdue back up by four, 12-8, but a layup by Whitney Thomas and a 3-pointer from Nikki Smith regained a one point advantage for IU, 13-12, with 10:33 on the clock. Purdue answered again as back-to-back layups by the Boilers gave them a three-point edge with 8:21 to go.

    The Hoosiers kept fighting back as Amber Jackson put in a layup to cut the Purdue lead to one, 16-15, with 7:46 on the clock. Natasha Bogdanova hit a 3-pointer to increase the Boilermakers lead to four points, 19-15, with 7:31 remaining in the half, but Braun answered with a 3 of her own to put IU back within one. Following a Keshia Mosley layup, IU's Haylie Linn drained a 3-pointer at the 6:25 mark to knot the score at 21-21. A pair of Boiler free throws and a fast break layup by Malone gave Purdue a 25-21 lead with 3:29 remaining. Ebony Jackson came off the bench and nailed a 3-pointer at the 3:07 mark, which was followed by a layup from Thomas to put the Hoosiers back on top, 26-25, with 1:57 to go. A jumper by Lakisha Freeman at the 1:41 mark put Purdue back up by one, but another 3-pointer by Ebony Jackson sparked a 5-3 Hoosier run in the final 1:22 of the first stanza to send IU into the locker room with a 31-30 lead at the break.

    Indiana jumped out of the halftime break on a 9-0 run by way of six points by Kim Roberson to take a 39-30 lead with 15:08 remaining in the second half. A layup by France stopped the Hoosiers' run, but IU had an answer with a 3-pointer by Smith to maintain a 10-point lead, 42-32, with 14:36 on the clock. However, Purdue battled its way back with an 8-1 run that cut IU's lead to three, 43-40. A layup from Ebony Jackson increased IU's lead back to five, 45-40, with 10:26 remaining in the game. The Hoosiers continued to dominate Purdue through the remainder of the second half as they came away with a 66-54 win.

    Thomas led IU with 17 points and 18 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season, 15th of her career. She also added three blocked shots and two steals. Braun scored 14 points and added six rebounds and four assists. Roberson added 11 points, four assists and four steals in the win.

    The Hoosiers outrebounded Purdue, 46-38 and outshot the Boilermakers, 38.9 percent (21-of-54) to 31.8 percent (21-of-66).

    The win over Purdue was IU's first since Feb. 9, 2006, which was also in Mackey Arena.

    Indiana returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 17 when they host Minnesota at 7 p.m. ET in Assembly Hall.
