Hoosiers Top Penn State, 65-55

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Three Hoosiers netted double-digit points as the Indiana women's basketball team (15-4, 8-2) topped Penn State, 65-55, to sweep the regular season series.
Senior Amber Jackson collected her fourth double-double of the season with a team-best 15 points and 12 rebounds, as she grabbed six from each side of the glass. Junior Jamie Braun recorded 14 points on 5-of-12 shooting form the field, 2-of-3 from the 3-point line and 2-of-2 from the free throw line. She also recorded two assists and two steals. Sophomore Jori Davis netted 12 points and added two boards, two assists and a steal.
Penn State's (8-11, 3-6) Tyra Grant sank a 3-pointer to open the game at the 19:33 mark, only to see Whitney Thomas match it with a 3 of her own at the 19:05 mark to knot the game 3-3. After a jumper by Braun with 17:59 on the clock, the Lady Lions put together a 17-6 run to build up a 20-11 lead with 10:40 to go in the first half. The Hoosiers responded with a run of their own, holding Penn State scoreless while coming back to take a 26-20 lead on a 15-0 run with 3:15 left to play in the half. However, the Lady Lions answered, holding Indiana scoreless for the final 2:39 to regain a 29-26 lead at the break.
The Lady Lions were once again the first score in the second stanza as Julia Trogele sank a jumper at the 19:49 mark. IU answered with a layup from Thomas with 18:53 on the clock. Following a pair of missed free throws, Davis netted a jumper that started a 13-5 Indiana run that gave the Hoosiers a 41-36 lead, with 14:28 to go. A jumper from Trogele at the 14-minute mark was the last field goal by the Lady Lions as Indiana tightened up its defense allowing PSU to only score on free throws for just over six and half minutes to build up a 51-43 lead with 7:21 left to play. The Hoosiers went on to lead by as many as 11 en route to the 65-55 win.
The Hoosiers shot 40.4 percent (23-of-57) from the field, 46.2 percent (6-of-13) from 3-point line and 61.9 percent (13-of-21) from the free throw line on the night. IU was outrebounded, 39-34, but the Hoosiers forced Penn State into committing 25 turnovers. The Lady Lions shot 41.7 percent (20-of-48) from the field and were led by Tyra Grant with 18 points and Trogele with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Indiana returns to action when it faces No. 14 Ohio State in Columbus on the Big Ten Network Sunday, Feb. 1 at 4 p.m. ET.
