Hoosiers Fall At Minnesota, 79-69

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Despite three players finishing with double-figure scoring efforts, including a double-double from senior Sarah McKay, the Indiana women's basketball team fell at Minnesota, 79-69, on Sunday, Feb. 11.
Freshman Jamie Braun led IU (15-11, 4-9) with 17 points, while sophomore Kim Roberson added 16 in the loss. McKay tallied 13 points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season for the Hoosiers.
Indiana made a charge late in the game, cutting the Minnesota (14-12, 6-7) lead to just five, 67-62, with 2:53 to play following a 14-3 run. However, the Gophers answered with a 6-0 run of their own, all from the free throw line, to take back an 11 point advantage. Minnesota led by as many as 20 points in the second half and was 12-of-12 from the charity stripe in the final 2:30.
The Gophers jumped out of the tip with a 13-3 lead, but a 3-pointer by Roberson capped a 17-7 Hoosier run that knotted the score at 20-20. Minnesota slowly pulled away as it put together a 15-2 run to close out the first stanza and head into the break with a 35-23 lead.
The Hoosiers shot 33.9 percent (20-of-59) from the field while Minnesota turned in a 40.0 percent (22-of-55) afternoon. The Gophers won the battle on the boards, 43-37, including by a 27-21 margin on the defensive glass. McKay blocked a game-high four shots while sophomore Whitney Thomas dished out four of Indiana's 13 assists in the game.
Minnesota was led by Emily Fox, who had a game-high 23 points on 6-of-11 shooting and a 9-of-10 performance from the free throw line. Three other Gophers scored in double figures in the game, including Ashley Ellis-Milan, who with her 11 rebounds and 11 points joined McKay as the two players to tally double-doubles in the contest.
The Hoosiers will be in action next on Sunday, Feb. 18, when they host Illinois in Assembly Hall. Game time is set for 2:05 p.m. EST and can be heard live on WHCC 105.1.
