Penn State (19-5, 10-2) jumped ahead 7-0 in the game's first two minutes before IU countered with back-to-back treys from Lyndsay Leikem and Brooks to put the Hoosiers on the board and cut the deficit to one point.

The Lady Lions later opened up a 28-18 lead as IU went over five minutes without scoring before Brooks ended the drought with a layup at the 6:05 mark. Indiana then cut the lead to three points, 30-27, after another Leikem 3-point field goal at the 4:11 mark. Penn State went on to take a 37-31 lead into the locker room.
