Nov. 4, 2008
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Four Hoosiers reached double-digit points as the Indiana women's basketball team closed exhibition action with an 82-56 win over the University of Indianapolis on Tuesday, Nov. 4 in Assembly Hall.
Sophomore Jori Davis scored a game-high 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor. Senior Whitney Thomas netted 18 points and added eight rebounds, four steals, three blocked shots and three assists. Classmate Kim Roberson sank a perfect 6-of-6 from the floor for 14 points in just 11 minutes and added three steals in the effort. Senior Amber Jackson scored 10 points and grabbed eight boards.
"What a great game. We had different players step up today," said Indiana head coach Felisha Legette-Jack. "Jori had a tremendous game and Whitney (Thomas) played confrontational and was patient in making her shots. Kim was able to set the tone in the beginning, so overall it was a good team victory."
The Hoosiers held the Greyhounds to just two points and forced 16 turnovers until Caroline Schutzman sank a 3-pointer at the 6:58 mark in the first half. Indiana maintained its dominance holding at least a 19-point advantage before heading into the break with a 47-19 lead.
UIndy recovered in the second half, outscoring the Hoosiers, 37-35, but it wasn't enough as Indiana was able to hold at least a 21-point lead en route to the 82-56 win.
Schutzman led the Greyhounds with 15 points, including three 3-pointers, Jessica Canary scored 12 points and Sarah Fenneman added 11 points in the effort.
Indiana shot 51.7 percent (30-of-58) from the field and outrebounded the Hounds, 42-29. UIndy shot 35.1 percent from the field (20-of-57) on the game and tallied 23 turnovers.
The Hoosiers open the regular season on Friday, Nov. 14 when they host Ball State in the first round of the Preseason WNIT in Assembly Hall.
