    BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Six Hoosiers reached double-digits as the Indiana women's basketball team defeated Ball State, 84-68, in the first round of the Preseason WNIT. The Hoosiers (1-0) advance to the second round and will host Xavier at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday, Nov. 16 in Assembly Hall.

    Senior Amber Jackson led all players with 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line. Jackson also led all players with eight rebounds. Senior All-America candidate Whitney Thomas scored 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor and added seven boards. Senior Kim Roberson scored 12 points and added six rebounds, three assists and three steals, while freshman Sasha Chaplin and sophomore Whitney Lindsay scored 11 points a piece.

    The Hoosiers opened the game outscoring the Cardinals, 10-0 in the first two-plus minutes of the game. A layup by Emily Maggert put BSU on the board, but a 14-4 Indiana run increased the Hoosiers' lead to 18, 24-6, with 11:46 on the clock. A 3-pointer by Kiley Jarrett sparked an 11-4 Ball State run, which cut the deficit to 11, 28-17, with 8:08 to go in the half. A pair of free throws by Jackson increased the Hoosiers lead back to 13. Indiana maintained a double-digit advantage until 12 seconds remaining in the half when the second of a pair of good free throws by Jarrett cut the Hoosiers' lead to nine, 42-33, but a set of free throws from IU's Jackson sent the two teams into the break with Indiana leading, 44-33.

    Ball State opened the second half outscoring the Hoosiers, 7-4, shrinking the deficit to just eight, 48-40, with 16:47 to go in the game. However, the Hoosiers toughened up their defense and used a 13-2 run to take a 61-42 lead, capped off by a layup from Roberson, at the 12:10 mark. Indiana kept battling and maintained a 15-point advantage for the 84-68 win.

     

     

    The Hoosiers shot 52.5 percent (32-of-61) from the field and just missed outrebounding the Cardinals, 38-37. Ball State shot 38.2 percent (21-of-55) from the floor and was led by Audrey McDonald with 13 points. Danielle Gratton added 12, while Porchia Greene and Jarrett scored 11 points a piece.

    Indiana will face Xavier on Sunday after it defeated Robert Morris, 79-49, in Cincinnati Friday afternoon.
