Dec. 9, 2008
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Three Hoosiers (6-2) scored in double-digits as the Indiana women's basketball team extended its current win streak to five games with a 63-41 win over Butler (3-5), in its final non-conference contest in Assembly Hall.
Senior All-America candidate Whitney Thomas recorded her 26th career double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. She added two steals, two blocked shots and one assist. Senior Amber Jackson led all players with 18 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the floor, while senior Kim Roberson added 15 points in the win.
With Indiana up by just one at the 16:24 mark, 7-6, a layup by Jackson and a steal by Thomas and an outlet pass to Roberson for a layup with 12:11 remaining in the half sparked a 32-14 run that sent the two teams into the break with the Hoosiers leading 39-20.
Jackson netted 12 points in the first half on a perfect 6-of-6 shooting. Roberson scored 10 points and added a pair of steals, while Thomas added seven points, seven boards, two steals and two blocked shots.
Butler outscored IU, 13-11, in the first nine minutes of the second half. However, the Hoosiers maintained at least a 19-point advantage en route to the 63-41 win.
The Hoosiers shot 47.3 percent (26-of-55) from the floor and won the battle of the boards, 40-32. Indiana held Butler to just 28.8 percent (17-of-57) shooting from the field and 9.5 percent (2-of-21) shooting from beyond the arc.
Indiana closes out the non-conference slate when they travel to Morgantown, W. Va., to take on West Virginia on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 2 p.m. ET.
