    EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Indiana women's basketball team dropped its Big Ten opener against Michigan State (10-2, 1-0), 74-49, at MSU's Breslin Center on Dec. 28. Despite three Hoosiers scoring in double figures, IU fell to 11-3 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.

    The Spartans jumped out to a 10-1 lead in the first three minutes. A 7-6 Hoosier run cut Michigan State¹s lead to 16-8 on a 3-pointer by Kim Roberson with 14:05 to go in the half. However, a 23-6 Spartan run in the final 13:40 of the half gave Michigan State a 37-15 lead at the break.

    The Spartans, who never trailed in the contest, continued to extend their lead in the second half en route to claiming the 74-49 victory.

    For the game, the Hoosiers were led by three players in double figures. Nikki Smith and Roberson tallied 12 points apiece, while Leah Enterline registered 10. Whitney Thomas hauled in a game-high 13 rebounds, including eight offensive boards. Led by Roberson's five steals, IU forced 26 MSU turnovers.

    Indiana returns to the hardwood to take on its second league opponent in Michigan on Dec. 31. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. EST at Assembly Hall.
