McCurty Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana freshman Quaneisha McCurty was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week by the conference office on Monday afternoon. McCurty is the first Indiana women's basketball player to earn the honor.
The 6-6 freshman averaged a near double-double in IU's two games last week with 11.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 5.0 blocks per contest. In Indiana's win over Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Dec. 27, McCurty scored 17 points with eight rebounds and five blocks. In that game she shot 7-of-13 from the field including 3-of-5 from 3-point range. Against Michigan State in the IU's Big Ten opener, she recorded a team-high 10 rebounds, while adding five blocks and five points.
The Dalton, Ga., native has scored in double-figures three times this season and has two double-double performances on the year. In her last three games, she is averaging 14.0 points, 10.7 rebounds and 5.3 blocks per game in those three games. McCurty has shot 50 percent (17-of-34) from the field and 57.1 percent (4-of-7) from beyond the arc during that span.
Indiana will battle Minnesota on the road today at 3 p.m. ET before heading to Nebraska for the program's first conference matchup with the Huskers on Thursday, Jan. 5, at 8 p.m. ET.
