Hoosiers Ranked, Brooks Named B1G Freshman of the Week
Jan. 6, 2014
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's basketball team ranked No. 22 in Monday's Associated Press Top 25 Poll, the highest ranking ever in school history and just the second time the Hoosiers have ever been ranked in the AP Poll (last Jan. 19, 1993). Larryn Brooks was also named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday, as announced by the conference office.
Brooks earns her second Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor of the season (Nov. 12) after leading Indiana with 20 points in IU's win over No. 22/23 Iowa on Jan. 2 in the team's conference opener. The Richmond, Ky., native made seven free throws in the final minute of the game to seal the 86-84 win over the Hawkeyes and dished for a career-best nine assists. She also nailed three 3-point field goals.
Brooks has tallied 20 points or more in five games this year, the most among all Big Ten freshman. She also leads all conference freshmen in scoring.
Senior Simone Deloach also earned recognition from the conference as she was named to the Big Ten Player of the Week Honor Roll. Deloach came off the bench against Iowa to tally her second straight double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds, tying her season best in scoring and setting a season mark in rebounds. She also tied career marks with three blocks and three steals against the nationally ranked Hawkeyes.
