BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana Department of Athletics will hold its annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Sunday, Feb. 8, prior to the Hoosier women's basketball game against Illinois in Assembly Hall. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. ET, with tip-off against the Fighting Illini scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.

Sunday will give fans a chance to meet IU female student-athletes, try new sports skills and learn the benefits of participating in sports. Pre-game activities include interactive stations focusing on girls and women's health, fitness and safety issues, as well as academic success and career opportunities.

"National Girls and Women in Sports Day gives young girls a chance to see their dreams come to life and meet student-athletes that may serve as their role models," said IU head coach Felisha Legette-Jack. "Sunday will be full of excitement on the court and around Assembly Hall, and will give the Bloomington community a chance to experience some great activities and interact with our Hoosiers."

Sponsors of Sunday's event include the Girl Scouts, IU Campus Recreational Sports, the IU Women's Basketball team, the Indiana Youth Institute, and the IU School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation.

To purchase tickets, call the IU Ticket Office at 1-866-IUSPORTS or log on to IUHoosiers.com.

There will also be a postgame autograph session with the Hoosiers and a chance for fans to shoot layups on Branch McCracken Court in Assembly Hall.
