Future Hoosier Newbauer Leads Ft. Wayne Concordia to State Championship
March 8, 2010
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Incoming point guard Andrea Newbauer tallied 11 points, eight rebounds, six assists and two steals as she helped lead Ft. Wayne Concordia High School to a 3A Indiana State Championship on Saturday, March 6, to end the season with a 24-3 record. The Cadets upended No. 1 Rushville, 59-48, in the team's first appearance in a state finals game.
Newbauer entered the title game averaging 13.3 points and 4.6 assists per game. The 5-foot-9 point guard will join the 2010-11 freshmen class at Indiana. She signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her career at IU last November.
"Andrea has won a state championship and cut the nets down," said IU head coach Felisha Legette-Jack. "We need to understand what that feels like. She will bring that sense of urgency with her when she comes to Bloomington. We are here to raise banners in Assembly Hall and cut down some nets, too, so we're excited that Andrea brings that to our program. She's a great point guard and a great student. We're very excited to have her as a part of our Hoosier family."
