THE OPENING TIP
The Hoosiers will visit Illinois State on Sunday, March 29, in the quarterfinal round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT). Tip-off against the Redbirds is set for 3 p.m. ET from Redbird Arena in Normal, Ill. Sunday's game will be broadcast live on WHCC 105.1 FM Bloomington as Jeremy Gray calls the action between IU and ISU. The game will be streamed live for free on GoRedbirds.com.
IU head coach Felisha Legette-Jack is in her third year at the helm of the Hoosier program with a career mark of 112-102 over seven seasons. She led the Hoosiers to back-to-back postseason berths in the WNIT and an 18-15 mark in 2007-08. Legette-Jack recorded her 100th career victory at Michigan State on Dec. 29, and reached her 50th win as the Hoosier mentor against Purdue on Jan. 19, 2009.
Illinois State head coach Robin Pingeton is 115-72 leading the Redbirds and owns a 309-148 mark in her 13 year career.
SCOUTING THE REDBIRDS
Illinois State enters Sunday's game with a 26-7 mark after defeating Marquette, 51-50, on Thursday, March 26 in Redbird Arena. ISU is led by Kristi Cirone with 18.9 points per game. She is shooting 47.6 percent from the field, 41.0 percent from the 3-point line and 75.6 percent from the free throw line. She also leds the Redbirds with 196 assists and 70 steals on the season. Maggie Knick is averaging 12.7 points, while Nicolle Lewis is collecting 10.0 points and 7.2 boards per contest. Illinois State averages 72.8 points and 41.2 rebounds per game as a team.
Indiana has posted a winning road record against Big Ten opponents, going 5-4 this season. The above .500 winning percentage is the Hoosiers' first against league foes since the 1985-86 season (5-4). On the season, IU has recorded 12 wins outside of the Bloomington city limits and recorded six straight wins away from Assembly Hall between Nov. 25 and Dec. 29. The Hoosiers have also faced opponents on an opposing court 18 times in their 31 games.
WNIT GAME TWO: INDIANA 75, BOWLING GREEN 67
Five Hoosiers reached double-digit points as the Indiana women's basketball team (21-10) defeated Bowling Green, 75-67, on Thursday, March 26, to advance to the quarterfinals of the WNIT.
Senior Whitney Thomas collected her 32nd career double-double, her 10th of the season, with 13 points and 12 rebounds. She added four assists, two blocked shots and one steal. Senior Amber Jackson led the Hoosiers with 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor, and added eight rebounds and a blocked shot. Junior Jamie Braun netted 16 points, and tallied four assists and four steals. Sophomore Jori Davis scored 12 points and grabbed six boards, and senior Kim Roberson scored 10 points and collected seven rebounds.
The Hoosiers shot 48.1 percent (26-of-54) from the field and 79.2 percent (19-of-24) from the free throw line. IU also held the advantage on the boards, outrebounding Bowling Green, 39-31. The Falcons shot 38.7 percent (24-of-62) from the field and 82.2 percent (14-of-17) from the free throw line.
