April 11, 2007
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana women's basketball senior Sarah McKay has been invited to the Seattle Storm preseason training camp, which begins on Sunday, April 22. She is the third player in IU women's basketball history to reach the WNBA.
The training camp runs through Thursday, May 17, with the Storm facing the Houston Comets in their season-opener on Saturday, May 19, in Seattle.
"I'm excited to be given this opportunity by the Storm," McKay said. "I always knew that I wanted to play a post-collegiate career and I am honored that I am getting a shot to play in the WNBA. Seattle is close to home for me and it's a wonderful program with an amazing coach."
McKay, a 6-7 center from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, became a presence in the paint for the Hoosiers, averaging 11.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game. She led Indiana in scoring eight times this season and registered six double-doubles in her final campaign, including 22 points and 11 boards at Penn State on Feb. 25. She led the Hoosiers and ended the season ranked fourth in the Big Ten with 1.8 blocked shots per game.
During conference action, McKay led IU with 13.9 points per game and was second on the squad with 7.4 rebounds per contest.
McKay was selected to the All-Big Ten third team by the league's coaches, and earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honors from the media.
