Miller Adds Anderson, Gerardot to 2013-14 Roster
May 2, 2013
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana head women's basketball coach Curt Miller added two new faces to the 2013-14 roster with the signing of two Indiana natives in incoming freshman Jennifer Anderson and the addition of senior transfer Tabitha Gerardot.
Anderson, a 6-3 center from Noblesville, Ind., will play on the Indiana All Star team this summer after averaging a near double-double during her senior campaign with 18.0 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. She led Westfield High School to a 21-3 record and a sectional championship during her final high school season.
Over the course of her prep career, Anderson earned all-conference honors all four seasons, was named all-county three times and was an all-state selection once. She was also a member of the Indiana Junior All Star team in the summer of 2012. During her four years, Anderson helped lead Westfield to an overall 77-13 (.856) record with two sectional titles while setting individual school records with 1,571 career points and 873 career rebounds.
"We are excited that Jenn has joined our IU basketball family," Miller said. "Jenn is a talented center with great fundamentals. She had a highly decorated high school career and will soon be participating in the Indiana-Kentucky All-Star series. Jenn has consistently put up impressive numbers including an outstanding career field goal percentage. She brings depth to our post game and a physical presence which is needed in the Big Ten."
Miller adds Anderson to his first full recruiting class since taking over at the helm of the Indiana program. She joins fall signees Taylor Agler (Westerville, Ohio/Olegtangy Orange H.S.), Larryn Brooks (Richmond, Ky./Madison Central H.S.), Alexis Gassion (Fairborn, Ohio/Fairborn H.S.), Lyndsay Leikem (Tucson, Ariz./Flowing Wells H.S.) and Karlee McBride (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria H.S.).
Gerardot will enroll at Indiana after spending the last three seasons at Valparaiso University. The Ft. Wayne, Ind., native will earn her undergraduate degree from Valpo this month and will be able to play right away for the Hoosiers in 2013-14 in her final year of eligibility.
The 6-1 Gerardot led the Crusaders in scoring in each of the last two seasons and averaged a near double-double last year with 15.5 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. She shot 47.4 percent during her junior season from the field and over 34 percent from beyond the arc on her way to earning Second Team All-Horizon League honors. Over her three years at Valpo, Gerardot appeared in every single game for the Crusaders and started in 91 of 93 contests to compile 1,215 career points while bringing in 723 career rebounds.
As a prep player at Canterbury High School, Gerardot led the Cavaliers to three state championships and was named the state tournament's Most Valuable Player in 2008 and 2010. She finished third in the Indiana Miss Basketball voting as a senior in 2010 and was an Indiana All Star while being a First Team All-State selection that season. Geardot finished her four years of high school with 1,944 career points and graduated as the school's career leader in rebounds with 1,157 boards.
"Tabitha will be an excellent addition to our program next year," Miller said. "She is a proven and productive collegiate power forward. She has a versatile skill set allowing her to play facing the basket but also the toughness to play inside. Tabitha will also bring leadership to our young roster that will include ten freshmen and sophomores. Tabitha has great character and will represent the Hoosier Nation on and off the court and we are pleased that she wanted to end her career in an IU uniform.
"Overall, we are excited about the finishing touches to our first true recruiting class. The class has added great depth and certainly addresses some of the areas of need. We believe this class will serve as a strong foundation as we continue the rebuilding process at IU."
