Legette-Jack Signs Taufa to 2010-11 Indiana Women's Basketball Roster
May 10, 2010
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana head women's basketball coach Felisha Legette-Jack has announced the addition of Milika Taufa, a 6-0 forward from Lahaina, Hawai'i, to a National Letter of Intent for the 2010-11 season.
"We're excited that Milika has joined our Hoosier family," said Legette-Jack. "She's a young lady that we think will help us address our rebounding. Rebounding is the category that we could have gotten better in and she's a tenacious rebounder. She's a great undersized post player, but she can go the left or the to right. More important than her basketball ability, we love her integrity, her academic prowess and her ability to want to get better on the basketball court. I think that she's another piece of the puzzle that we're trying to create here to help us move to the top of our Big Ten Conference."
Taufa averaged 15.3 points and 9.1 rebounds per game her senior season at Lahainaluna High School and was a First Team All-State honoree as a junior and senior. She was named the Most Outstanding Player of the state playoffs after leading Lahainaluna to the state title and tallied 26 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots in the championship game. Taufa is also a two-time Maui Interscholastic League Division I Player of the Year, earned a spot on the 2010 Honolulu Star-Bulletin's All-Defensive Team and was named to the 2008 and 2009 Team Aloha.
She becomes the second player in IU women's basketball history to hail from the Aloha State (Debbie Omizo).
Taufa joins Andrea Newbauer (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Concordia) and Simone Deloach (Round Rock, Texas/Round Rock) to the 2010-11 signing class.
