May 19, 2011
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's basketball team will travel to Charlottesville, Va. on Dec. 1, 2011 to take on the Virginia Cavaliers as part of the fifth installment of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Both conferences made the official announcement of the pairings on Thursday afternoon.
"What another great opportunity to showcase the talent of the Big Ten Conference," Head Coach Felisha Legette-Jack said. "We are very excited to be a part of this challenge again. We will face a tough Virginia squad who played well at home last season, but hopefully we can repeat what we did last year on the road in our challenge game."
The Hoosiers defeated Clemson on the road in last year's challenge, 65-51, and is 2-2 all-time in the annual event, with both of those victories coming on the road. IU's other victory in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge came at Miami on Dec. 5, 2008.
This year's matchup will mark the third all-time meeting between Indiana and Virginia with the Cavaliers winning in both of those contests. The last meeting between these two programs took place on Nov. 26, 2009 in the Junkaroo Jam in Freeport, Grand Bahama Island.
The Big Ten went 5-6 in last year's event, the closest margin since the challenge began in 2007. Overall on the season, the Big Ten boasted a 9-7 record against ACC teams in 2010-11. This year's challenge games will be contested in a two-day format, beginning Wednesday, Nov. 30. Game times, as well as broadcast coverage, will be announced at a later date.
