BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Linda Rubene, a 2013 graduate of the Indiana women's basketball program, will continue her playing career with a professional team in Spain this fall. Rubene signed last month with Tintos de Toro Caja Rural Zamora in the city of Zamora.

The league that Caja Rural plays in is called Liga Femenina de Baloncesto (LFB), the top women's basketball league in Spain. The league consists of 11 teams from throughout the country. Rubene will begin training with the team in September with the season beginning on October.

Rubene came to Indiana as a junior college transfer prior to the 2011-12 season. During her senior season in 2012-13, Rubene showed much improvement under first year head coach Curt Miller. After playing only 12.1 minutes per game as a junior, Rubene appeared in 29 games and was third on the team in scoring with 6.5 points per game to go along with 4.3 rebounds per contest while logging 28.4 minutes each game. She scored in double figures six times last season and set or tied career single-game marks in nearly every statistical category.

"We are thrilled that Linda will continue her basketball career playing professionally in Spain" Miller said. "She is an outstanding teammate and impacted our Hoosier program at both ends of the court this past season. We wish Linda nothing but best in her professional career."

The Gulbene, Latvia, native is currently working out on her own in Latvia. Rubene graduated from IU in May with a degree in Economics.
