Indiana to Host Oklahoma State in Big 12/Big Ten Women's Basketball Challenge
July 14, 2011
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana will host the Oklahoma State Cowgirls in the second installment of the Big 12/Big Ten Women's Basketball Challenge on Dec. 4, 2011. Both conferences made the announcement on Thursday.
This will be the first meeting between the Hoosiers and OSU, and marks the fifth-consecutive season that IU has played against a Big 12 opponent. During the inaugural challenge last season, the Hoosiers defeated No. 19 Nebraska to snap a 37-game regular season win streak for the Huskers.
"This is another great opportunity for our program to compete at the highest level," head coach Felisha Legette-Jack said. "It gives our team, as well as everyone in the conference, a chance to showcase the talent the Big Ten has on a national stage."
The inter-conference series began in 2010 and features a home-and-home format over a two-year agreement. Texas Tech will represent the Big 12 in two games, while Big Ten member Nebraska will sit out in 2011 due to the uneven number of teams among the two conferences. Last season, the Big Ten claimed the inaugural challenge, 7-5.
