BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's basketball team will host 17 regular season games in Assembly Hall in 2014-15 as the complete schedule was announced on Thursday. The Big Ten will move back to an 18-game conference schedule this year for the first time since 2009-10. The Hoosiers will host nine Big Ten opponents and eight non-conference foes in Bloomington this season.
"We are excited to play 17 games in front of our home fans and to start the year with eight of our 11 non-conference games in Assembly Hall," head coach Teri Moren said. "We realize the Big Ten schedule is tough, but we look forward to the challenge of competing night in and night out against some of the best teams in the country."
The Moren era will get started with six consecutive home games in Assembly Hall beginning on Nov. 15 as the Hoosiers will host Gardner-Webb in the season opener. The homestand will continue with matchups against Valparaiso (Nov. 18), Morehead State (Nov. 21), Incarnate Word (Nov. 23), ETSU (Nov. 26) and Indiana State (Nov. 30).
The Hoosiers will hit the road for the first time for an ACC/Big Ten Challenge matchup at Boston College on Dec. 3. IU will then return home for a pair of games against in-state schools IUPUI on Dec. 7 and IPFW on Dec. 10. Indiana will wrap up its non-conference slate with a pair of road contests at Milwaukee (Dec. 14) and Oakland (Dec. 20).
Big Ten play will begin on Dec. 28 when Indiana hosts one of the newest members of the conference and last year's WNIT champion, Rutgers. IU will then welcome Michigan State to Assembly Hall on Dec. 31.
Indiana's first road Big Ten game will take place at Mackey Arena against rival Purdue on Jan. 4. The Hoosiers will then play a pair of home games against Ohio State (Jan. 8) and Wisconsin (Jan. 11) before hitting the road for Minnesota on Jan. 18 and Penn State on Jan. 22.
IU will host the other newest member to the conference and a Final Four team from a year ago in Maryland on Jan. 25 before wrapping up the month with a stop at Michigan State on the Jan. 28.
The February schedule gets started with a Monday night bout with Purdue on Feb. 2 in Bloomington. Northwestern will then come to town for a Feb. 5 game before IU heads to Columbus, Ohio to take on the Buckeyes on Feb. 8. On Feb. 11, Indiana will host Illinois for the only matchup with the Fighting Illini in 2014-15.
The Hoosiers will play four of its final five games on the road to end the Big Ten regular season schedule with stops at Iowa (Feb. 15), Michigan (Feb. 18), Maryland (Feb. 26) and Rutgers (March 1) sandwiched around the final home game of the regular season vs. Nebraska on Feb. 21.
All remaining times and TV designations will be announced at a later date.
For the first time in conference history, 14 teams will participate in the 2015 Big Ten Tournament at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Ill. on March 4-8. The Hoosiers will host an exhibition contest in Assembly Hall against Indianapolis on Sunday, Nov. 9.
