Hoosiers Open 2007-08 Women's Basketball Preseason

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - After one week of classes, the Indiana women's basketball team got the 2007-08 season underway on Monday, Sept. 3 when they began preseason conditioning.
The Hoosiers start individual workouts on Tuesday, Sept. 4. IU will continue its individuals every Tuesday and Thursday before its first official practice on Sunday, Oct. 14.
Second-year head coach Felisha Legette-Jack returns four players from last year's 19-14 squad that reached the third round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament. Senior Nikki Smith returns as IU's leading scorer after netting 12.0 points per game. The 5-9 shooting guard from Sylvania, Ohio, also led the Hoosiers from beyond the arc after sinking 34.9 percent (67-of-192) of her 3's.
Additionally, the Hoosiers return sophomore and 2007 Big Ten Sixth Player of the Year Jamie Braun and juniors Kim Roberson and Whitney Thomas. Braun averaged 10.6 points and 5.3 rebounds off the bench. The 5-8 guard from Marshfield, Wis., was named the 2006 Women's Sports Foundation Classic Tournament MVP after helping lead the Hoosiers to the tournament title with an upset of then-No. 15 Kentucky.
Roberson ended the season ranked second in the Big Ten in steals with 86 thefts. The 5-10 guard from Indianapolis also averaged 10.1 points per game, the fourth highest average from last season's squad, 4.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. Thomas returns as IU's leading rebounder, grabbing 8.5 boards per game. Thomas, a 6-0 forward from Bloomington, Ind., also averaged 8.1 points per game and tallied 62 steals.
Indiana hosts a pair of exhibition games on Nov. 3 and 6 before opening the regular season on Friday, Nov. 9 against Albany in Assembly Hall.
