IU Women's Basketball Gets Hysterical
Oct. 17, 2008
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's basketball team got a little hysterical as they opened the season with Hoosier Hysteria on Friday, Oct. 17 in Assembly Hall.
In front of more than 10,000 Hoosier faithful, Indiana head women's basketball coach Felisha Legette-Jack appeared as a prize fighter and addressed the crowd before the Hoosiers took the floor for pre-game warm ups.
"It's going to take all of us," Legette-Jack said. "We have a great team this year and we need you to support us."
After pre-game warm ups, junior Jamie Braun and sophomore Haylie Linn battled the B97 morning crew from Alex's Playhouse - Alex and Josh, to a 3-point shootout. Braun and Linn combined for 11 3's, while Alex and Josh totaled just three. In the final, Braun came away with an 8-3 victory over her teammate to earn the 3-point champion title.
Following the 3-point contest, the Hoosiers took the floor and gave IU fans a preview of what's to come with a 15-minute scrimmage. Senior Kim Roberson scored nine points to lead the Crimson team to a 14-11 win over the Cream team.
Indiana will face Southern Indiana in its first exhibition game on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. on Branch McCracken Court. The Hoosiers will host the University of Indianapolis in their second and final exhibition contest on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m., before opening the regular season with Ball State in the first round of the Preseason WNIT on Friday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m.
