THE OPENING TIP
The Hoosiers wrap up exhibition play on Thursday, Nov. 5 when they host Grand Valley State at 7 p.m. ET in Assembly Hall. Admission is free. The game will be streamed live on IUHoosiers.com as Jeremy Gray calls the action from Branch McCracken Court.
LAST TIME OUT
The Indiana women's basketball team topped Lambuth, 108-54, in its exhibition opener in Assembly Hall on Sunday, Nov. 1. Five Hoosiers scored in double digits as junior Jori Davis led the way with 24 points.
Senior Jamie Braun tallied a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, and added a game-high five assists. Junior Hope Elam recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Sasha Chaplin netted 14 points and grabbed eight boards, and freshman Sasha Bernard tallied 11 points, four assists and two steals.
The Hoosiers dominated from the beginning, outscoring the Eagles 23-9 in the first seven and half minutes of the game. Outside of the first three minutes of the first half, Indiana led in double-digits for the remainder of the game and by as many as 54 en route to the win. Indiana shot 53.3 percent (40-of-75) from the field, 35.3 percent (6-of-17) from the 3-point line and 88.0 percent (22-of-25) from free throw line on the game. The Hoosiers won the battle of the boards, 54-31, and held the Eagles to just 28.6 percent (18-of-63) shooting from the floor on the game and tallied 14 steals on 26 Lambuth miscues.
Davis sank 9-of-13 from the floor, including a 3-pointer, hit 5-of-7 from the free throw line. Braun was 6-of-13 from the field and 2-of-4 from the 3-point line. Elam made 6-of-12 from the field, including a 3, and sank 3-of-3 from the line. Chaplin sank 6-of-8 from the field, and Bernard was a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor.
WHAT'S COMING UP
IU will open the regular season at Memphis on Friday, Nov. 13, at 6 p.m., before hosting IUPUI on Sunday, Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. The Hoosiers battle against the Jaguars will be streamed live on BigTenNetwork.com.
WHAT BRAUN DOES FOR IU
Senior Jamie Braun returns after averaging nearly 13 points, five rebounds and four assists per game last season. She became the 21st Hoosier to join the 1,000 Point Club and enters her final campaign with 1,221 points, ranking 14th all-time in program history. Braun also owns 170 career steals and is just two from tying Zan Jeffries (1988-91) for eighth in the record book.
DAVIS KEEPS GETTING BETTER
From her freshman season to her sophomore year, Jori Davis' game has continued to improve. She enters her junior season after ranking among the top 15 in the Big Ten in scoring with 11.8 points per game and was among the top 10 in 3-point field goal percentage (36.1) a year ago.
HOME SWEET HOME
The Hoosiers will play 17 games in Assembly Hall beginning with their two exhibition contests on Nov. 1 and Nov. 5. IU opens the regular season in Bloomington on Sunday, Nov. 15 against IUPUI. The home non-conference slate also features Cincinnati (Nov. 18), Missouri (Nov. 22), Florida State (Dec. 3), UT Martin (Dec. 9) and Toledo (Dec. 22).
