Hoosiers to Face Nebraska in Big Ten/Big 12 Women's Basketball Challenge
Nov. 11, 2009
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Big Ten and Big 12 Conferences announced today the formation of the inter-conference challenge for women's basketball, which will span at least two years and will begin the fall of 2010. The series will feature a home-and-home format over the initial two-year agreement. Indiana will face Nebraska in Bloomington in 2010 and will travel to Lincoln for the 2011 contest.
The Hoosiers lead the all-time series with the Cornhuskers, 1-0, after winning 83-80 on Nov. 26, 1994 in the Nebraska Classic championship game.
"We are excited about the addition of another great conference challenge to our schedule," said Indiana head coach Felisha Legette-Jack. "The Big Ten/ACC Challenge has been a fantastic way of matching up two great women's basketball conferences, and the addition of the Big Ten/Big 12 Challenge will be just as exciting. Nebraska is a tough program and we are excited for the opportunity."
The 2010 Challenge will be played Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 4 and 5. The Big Ten will have seven homes games during the 2010 Challenge, which will be referred to as the Big Ten/Big 12 Challenge. In 2011, the Big 12 will have seven home games, and the series will be referred to as the Big 12/Big Ten Challenge.
The Challenge represents the second inter-conference series for the Big Ten, who also participates in an annual challenge with the ACC. It is the first for the Big 12 in which all institutions will participate.
