    HOOSIERS INK THREE SIGNEES

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana's Women's Basketball Coach Jim Izard has announced the signing of three student-athletes to national letters of intent to play basketball at Indiana University next season. The signees include one player from the Hoosiers state, one from Illinois and one from Ohio.

Indiana native Anna Waugh is a 5-8 point guard who plays for Franklin Community High School in Franklin. As a junior, Waugh led the Lady Cubs to sectional and regional titles while averaging 18.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game. She was named Indianapolis Star Metro South Player of the Year and was also chosen as a USA Today High Honorable Mention selection. Waugh holds the school's career scoring record with 1,011 points.

Joining the Hoosiers from Wheaton, Ill., will be 6-0 forward Charliss Ridley. As a junior at Wheaton-Warrenville South High School, Ridley averaged 21.7 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. She also shot 50 percent from the field and 81 percent from the free-throw line. Heading into her senior season she ranks second all-time for career scoring with 1,208 points. Last season, Ridley was named to both the Chicago Sun-Times and Chicago Tribune All-Area and All-State teams. Ridley, who attended Perry Meridian (Indianapolis) as a freshman, averaged 10.7 points on the Falcons' 26-1 team in 1996-97.

IU's third signee is Nicole Motto out of Dayton, Ohio. Motto, a 5-5 guard, verbally committed to attend IU during her junior year at Oakwood High School. As a junior, she averaged 19.1 points, five assists and three rebounds per game while leading her team to it's second-straight league title. Oakwood finished the season 19-4 overall and advanced to the sectional finals. Motto currently holds several school career and season records, including career points (1,236), 3-point field goals in a career (212) and season (84), and assists in a career (353) and season (168). Last year Motto was named in AAU All-American after leading her team to a second-place national finish.

"We have signed a solid recruiting class which I am very pleased with," said Izard. "Anna is one of the leading Indiana Miss Basketball candidates heading into this season. She can handle the ball, drives the lane well and has a good perimeter shot. Nicole can play either point or shooting guard and always plays with a high level of intensity. Charliss at 6-0 brings quickness and size to the small forward position. All three should have an immediate impact on our program."
