BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - IU's Basketball legacy will soon be enhanced by the completion of the Basketball Development Center. Construction on the new headquarters for Hoosier basketball is nearing completion, leaving fans hopeful that the building will soon be home to IU's next NCAA championship team.

With more than a year of construction already completed, work on the building is currently being focused on mechanical and electrical work, masonry, roofing, tile, drywall, painting and exterior finishing and landscaping. Construction will continue for the next several months with completion scheduled for Spring 2010. View construction photos of the Basketball Development Center.

The Basketball Development Center, located southeast of Assembly Hall, will soon serve as the daily headquarters for the men's and women's basketball programs. With its unique exterior design, this state-of-the art venue will provide a modern and highly functional location for training, practice and conditioning. It will include practice courts, locker rooms, coaches' offices, meeting and video rooms, and a strength and conditioning area. It will also include the Legacy Court, an exhibit space to celebrate past championships and Indiana traditions and play host to new memory-making events.

The Basketball Development Center is part of the first major comprehensive capital campaign by the IU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. The campaign, For the Glory of Old IU, is focused on raising $80 million in private support for new and improved athletic facilities, endowment and on-going annual support of student-athlete scholarships.

Funds are still being sought for three other facilities, new baseball and softball stadiums and the Academic Resource Center. The Academic Resource Center is the next facility to be completed. The new Academic Resource Center will be located underneath the East side of Memorial Stadium using space formerly utilized by IU Football staff. The repurposed space will become a 25,800-square-foot academic center accessible to all student-athletes. The new center, scheduled for completion prior to the 2010-2011 academic year, will replace a 2,500 square-foot-space in Assembly Hall with more computers, classrooms, study areas, and tutoring rooms.
