    IU WOMEN DEFEAT NEW MEXICO STATE

    BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana women's basketball team defeated New Mexico State 61-55 in the consolation game of the Hampton Inn and Fazoli's Classic Monday afternoon at Assembly Hall.

    With the win, the Hoosiers head into Big Ten Conference play next week with a 5-6 record.

    Jill Chapman was named to the all-tournament after leading the Hoosiers for the second-straight game with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Teammates Jill Hartman also collected 15 points while Heather Cassady went 11-12 from the free throw line to finish with 11 points.

    As a team, the Hoosiers shot just 37 percent from the field while the Roadrunners shot 45 percent.

    "I was pleased with our second half of play," said Jim Izard. "This game was very critical in what we are trying to do before we head into the Big Ten season. This game now gives us momentum."

    Indiana begins Big Ten play Thursday, Dec. 30 against Minnesota at 7:30 p.m., in Assembly Hall.
