Edwards, a native of Heswall, England, enters his third season with the Hoosiers.
In 2013 the Hoosiers won six of their first eight games, including three straight shutouts. Junior Audra Heilman set a program record for points in a game with nine. Heilman earned First Team All-Big Ten honrs, All-Regioin honors and All-America honors for the season. Senior Hannah Boyer earned the Spirit of Indiana Director's Award, given by Vice President and Director of Athletics Fred Glass to two students that best represent the Spirit of Indiana.
The Hoosiers kicked off the 2012 campaign with four-straight victories, including a 3-2 overtime win over Louisville thanks to a game-winning goal from 2012 first team All-Big Ten selection Morgan Fleetwood. After dropping its next contest in a game-deciding shootout to Ohio, Indiana bounced back in a big way with a shootout victory over No. 22 ranked California. That win would land the Hoosiers with a No. 24 national ranking in the NFHCA polls. At the conclusion of the regular season, Indiana headed to the Big Ten Tournament in Iowa City, Iowa. There, the Hoosiers blanked Northwestern 4-0 and improved to 3-0 in postseason play against the Wildcats. In the semifinal game, IU's season would come to a close, but a pair of Hoosiers were recognized on the Big Ten All-Tournament Team in Viki Green and Mariella Grote. Three members of the 2012 squad earned All-Big Ten accolades, with Fleetwood taking first team honors and Hannah Boyer and Audra Heilman earning second team nods. Fleetwood and Heilman would later take homeLongstreth/NFHCA All-West Region Honors. Fleetwood then landed All-American status when she was namedthird team All-American by Synapse Sports/womensfieldhockey.com.
He comes to Indiana after working with the WC Eagles Field Hockey Club in Spring City, Penn. and brings with him years of experience as well as England Hockey and USA Field Hockey Level 3 coaching qualifications.
Prior to arriving in the United States, he worked for the England Hockey Board, where he served as the Young People and Students Intern. Edwards worked with junior performance squads while serving as a centrally contracted goalkeeping coach in addition to developing and writing a variety of coaching support resources for In2Hockey, a youth development program for aspiring athletes.
While working with the England Hockey Board, Edwards served as an Assistant Coach at Loughborough University during the 2009-2011 seasons. He assisted with all aspects of both the men's and women's squads and worked closely with the National Performance Centre coaching staff. During that time, Edwards also completed his Masters in Sport Science at Nottingham Trent University, specializing in Performance Analysis and Skill Acquisition.
A 2005 graduate of Loughborough University, Edwards helped his squad to two British University Championships (2002, '03), two National Indoor Championship titles (2003, '04, `05) as well as three European Indoor Championships (2004, '05, '06). He was also a member of the England U18 Squad in 2000.
