BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana field hockey team opened the regular season with a 3-0 win over Miami (Ohio) in Bloomington on Friday, Aug. 26. Morgan Fleetwood led the Hoosiers (1-0) with two goals, while Brenna Moeljadi netted one in the win.
Indiana got on the board in the 15th minute as Fleetwood netted her first goal of the year off a penalty corner, with Katie Griswold and Brooke Borneman picking up the assists. Just five minutes later, Fleetwood scored her second goal of the half as she played the ball off a rebound to score on the right side of the cage. The Hoosiers got their third goal of the game in the 37th minute as Moeljadi converted off a penalty corner with the assists going to Griswold and Borneman.
IU held strong on defense throughout the game, keeping the RedHawks (0-1) to just four shots, two on goal, and only two penalty corners. The Hoosiers earned 10 corners, while tallying 16 shots on the game, 12 on goal.
Maggie Olson (1-0) started in goal for Indiana and earned the win, with a clean first 35:00 minutes of the game, recording two saves. Viki Green played in the cage in the second half.
Fleetwood recorded five shots, all on goal and two goals on the day. Moeljadi took seven shots, four on goal, with one goal. Griswold and Borneman recorded two assists apiece.
The Hoosiers return to action on Sunday, Aug. 28, when they play host to No. 15 Duke at 1 p.m. ET at the IU Field Hockey Complex. Admission is free. Sunday is Kids' Day, as all children that attend will get a chance to make posters for their favorite players and win prizes.
