Hoosiers Beat Louisville, 3-2, in OT
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana field hockey team improved to 4-0 with a 3-2 overtime win against Louisville in Bloomington on Friday, Sept. 7. Morgan Fleetwood netted two goals, including the game-winner, while Nicole Volgraf knotted the game with IU's second goal of the day.
The Hoosiers (4-0) struck early as Fleetwood scored on a penalty corner in the fourth minute to give Indiana a 1-0 lead. Danielle McNally and Mariella Grote picked up assists on Fleetwood's goal. IU's defense held strong until 32nd minute when the Cardinals (3-2) tied it up at 1-1 with a goal from Becca Maddock.
The two teams opened the second half knotted with a goal apiece until Louisville's Erin Schneidtmiller scored in the 48th minute to give the visiting team a 2-1 advantage. The Hoosiers answered in the 62nd minute as Volgraf scored on a breakaway pass from Grote to push the game into OT with a score of 2-2.
Fleetwood capped off the day with the game-winner, as she netted her second goal of the game on a corner. Audra Heilman picked up the assist.
Viki Green tallied three saves in 71:11 in the cage. The Hoosiers outshot the Cardinals, 15-10, and tallied seven corners to UL's six.
Indiana returns to action on Sunday as it plays host to Ohio at 1 p.m. ET at the IU Field Hockey Complex. Sunday's game will be streamed live on BTN.com and the Hoosiers are scheduled to hold a Kid's Club Clinic for boys and girls of all ages, along with an autograph session, following the game.
