Hoosiers Lose Heartbreaker to Ohio in Final Minutes
Sept. 14, 2007
BLOOMINTON, Ind. - The Indiana field hockey team dropped tough 1-0 decision to Ohio University on Friday afternoon at the IU Field Hockey Field. Marcy Dull scored with 1:11 left in the game to give the Bobcats the win.
Ohio was able to draw a penalty corner with just over a minute left and were finally able to get one past the IU defense. Torrie Albini took the pass from the top and fired a shot on goal that was deflected past IU goalkeeper Haley Exner by Marcy Dull for the only goal of the game.
Just as they have on numerous occasions during the current five-game home stand, the Hoosiers mounted numerous offensive attacks early in the game, but were unable to cash in on any of them. Indiana (4-2) was able to get the ball into the circle but the Ohio defense would clamp down and not allow a shot on goal.
Ohio (4-2) out-shot Indiana, 6-3 in the first half and 10-8 for the game. The Bobcats also held a 5-3 advantage in penalty corners.
Exner made several tremendous saves in goal for the Hoosiers in the losing effort. She stymied a pair of two-on-one attacks and all four penalty corners until the final penalty corner that the Bobcats capitalized on.
She finished the game with six saves while Ohio goalkeeper Jessie Martin had four for the Bobcats.
Indiana will return to the IU Field Hockey Field on Sunday to take on No. 5 Wake Forest at 1 p.m. Ohio will be back in action on Saturday at the IU Field Hockey Field when they take on the Demon Deacons with a start time of 2 p.m.
